I think I have finished the study model. I did not glue any of the parts down to allow me to study variations or options suggested from jurors or myself. I have also found a picture of an open air plaza that I intend to adapt to my proposal.
Study Model
April 6, 2007 by wmuham2Site Strategy
March 27, 2007 by wmuham2My site strategy will address the following programmatic issues: commercial/residential infill, pedestrian/vehicular circulation, existing parking, temporal uses, open space, buffers, and screening. Infill development will be incorporated in weak spots of site area. This infill will be in a live/work regime to add density to the area. Proposed building types will be two stories with retail at the bottom with residential at the upper level with balconies. Building location will be closer to the street to strengthen the street-scape in the designated areas. Existing parking will be relocated to the rear of infill or existing businesses. Number of parking spaces will not increase but may decrease marginally. Relocation of parking that front businesses along Perkins Road will eliminate the existing conflict between pedestrian and vehicular circulation to in turn provide a linear continuity of pedestrian traffic. In addition, the result of rear parking ameliorates vehicular flow of traffic on Perkins within the site area. New road alignments will be proposed to improve vehicular circulation within the site. A pedestrian/bicycle connection to Hundred Oaks will be designed to advocate connectivity to the site area. Temporal uses are proposed within areas of the site that are currently underutilized or abandoned. An open air plaza will be incorporated centrally to define a unifying space to the whole planned development. In conclusion, to mitigate conflicting land uses,i.e. residential versus services areas, screening and buffers will be employed.
Revisions From Review
March 26, 2007 by wmuham2I revised my model incorporating the comments from the review. In considering the ground after infill development, I have decided to design a plaza that is surrounded by buildings. This plaza can be used for temporal activities. I am also looking to bring the Perkins overpasss to grade. This is my opinion will help the streetscape and businesses in that area.
Jury Review
March 21, 2007 by wmuham2The jurors were not able to show me how my proposal did not work as for as building orientation to the street. Wes did show me another way by increasing the right of way for a wider landscape buffer and sidewalk. I will incorporate this for existing buildings adjacent to Perkins.

I found some urban guidelines to use in my stradegy.
Working Model
March 14, 2007 by wmuham2I chose to represent the model as true as possible. I did not change the color because color may overpower existing conditions without justification. I also wanted to be able to read different groundcover and distinguish them between buildings without difficulty.
Magazine Street
March 9, 2007 by wmuham2It was a nice day for site analysis. One thing that I observed was the difference tree planting can make. Tree plantings acts as a buffer between pedestrian and automobile traffic. I created a diagram showing the estimated dimensions of the street section including sidewalks, landscape areas, travel lanes, and parking. We had creative differences within our group about my diagram, I guess they will have a chance to assess it from their opinion like the previous project.

February 28, 2007 by wmuham2My concept is to investigate two spatial areas and their programmatic inverse (behind the scenes).

Today things went as planned. I guess we will start consolidating information on Thursday to begin diagramming.
Progress
February 20, 2007 by wmuham2Today I went back to the site and took more pics. I also worked on inventory information. Tomorrow’s agenda include 360 panaramas and more inventory
